Introduction
Bangkok is a city where ancient temples, modern shopping districts, busy markets, riverside communities, and world-famous food all come together.
For first-time visitors, the challenge isn't finding things to do — it's deciding how to experience the city without trying to see everything at once.
This three-day itinerary combines Bangkok's historic heart, local food and markets, modern city experiences, and time to explore at your own pace.
Day 1: Bangkok's Historic Heart
Begin your Bangkok adventure by exploring some of the city's most important historic and cultural landmarks.
Start with the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home to the revered Emerald Buddha. Allow enough time to explore the complex and appreciate the detailed architecture and decoration.
Continue to Wat Pho, famous for its enormous Reclining Buddha and its historic connection with traditional Thai massage.
From there, make your way toward the Chao Phraya River and cross to Wat Arun. The Temple of Dawn is one of Bangkok's most recognizable landmarks, with its distinctive decorated central prang.
End your afternoon around the river or nearby historic neighborhoods. If you still have energy, enjoy dinner with a view of the Chao Phraya.

Day 2: Markets, Food & Modern Bangkok
Start your second day by exploring one of Bangkok's markets or local neighborhoods.
This is a good day to experience Thai food. Try a local breakfast, sample street food, or stop at a neighborhood restaurant for classic Thai dishes.
Later, explore one of Bangkok's major shopping districts. Bangkok offers everything from large modern shopping malls to independent stores and traditional markets.
In the evening, head toward Chinatown and Yaowarat. The neighborhood becomes particularly lively after dark, with restaurants and street-food vendors serving a wide variety of Thai and Chinese-influenced dishes.
Take your time and try several smaller dishes rather than filling up at your first stop.
Day 3: Choose Your Bangkok Experience
Keep your third day flexible. Bangkok has enough variety that you can choose an experience based on your interests.
More Culture: Visit another temple, explore the Golden Mount, or discover a museum or cultural attraction.
Parks & Relaxation: Spend some time in one of Bangkok's parks or enjoy a slower café afternoon.
Shopping & Lifestyle: Explore another shopping district, local market, or creative neighborhood.
River Experience: Take a river boat and explore Bangkok from the Chao Phraya.
You don't need to fill every hour. Leaving some space in your itinerary can make your final day more enjoyable.
End Your Trip With Bangkok After Dark
For a memorable final evening, consider experiencing Bangkok after sunset.
The Chao Phraya River takes on a different character at night as temples, bridges, hotels, and riverside buildings begin to glow against the skyline.
A riverside dinner or evening cruise can be a relaxing way to finish your Bangkok visit.
Tour Box also features selected Bangkok experiences separately as promotional content. Any featured experience should be clearly identified as such.
Getting Around Bangkok
Bangkok's BTS Skytrain and MRT are useful for reaching many major shopping, business, and residential areas.
River boats can be particularly useful around the Chao Phraya and historic districts.
Taxis and ride-hailing services are widely used, while walking can be enjoyable when attractions are close together.
Allow extra travel time when moving across the city, especially during busy periods.
First-Time Bangkok Tips
Start early when visiting major temples and outdoor attractions.
Dress respectfully when visiting temples and religious sites. Clothing that covers the shoulders and knees is generally the safest choice.
Stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat.
Don't try to see everything. Bangkok is a large city, and leaving some room for spontaneous discoveries can make the trip more enjoyable.
Check current opening hours, entrance fees, transportation information, and visitor requirements before visiting attractions.
Your 3-Day Bangkok Summary
Day 1: History, temples & Chao Phraya
Day 2: Markets, food, shopping & Chinatown
Day 3: Choose your own Bangkok experience
Three days is enough to experience some of Bangkok's highlights while still leaving you a reason to come back.
